Lives and works in Paris

Stéphane Vandenplas took his first ever photograph with a Polaroid camera, at the age of eight. As a child, he travelled across France, accompanying his father on his numerous business trips. « It is undoubtedly during these travels, that the need to photograph all these places was born, the need to capture the ever disappearing moments of every day life. »

Starting at age 15 he pursued photography more diligently, shooting with an analog camera. Then, at the age of 18, he moved to Paris, and turned to drawing and painting.

He attended the Preparatory year at the Atelier de Sèvres, then was admitted to the Fine Arts Academy in Reims in 1989. He then went on to study graphic design at the School of Visual Communication from which he graduated in 1991.

He completed his military service at the S.I.R.P.A. (Information and Communication Services of the French Defence). During his military service, he performed numerous photographic assignments for the Defence.

After completing his military service, he worked at a communication agency, then free-lanced as a graphic designer.

He returned to photography in 1999.
